Private Laser Verruca Removal Bristol

Nd:YAG & CO₂ Laser Options for Persistent Verrucas

Verrucas can be surprisingly resilient. Some settle on their own, but many linger for years—becoming painful, intrusive, and resistant to creams or freezing treatments.

At Doctor Brad’s Clinic in Bristol, suitable verrucas can be treated using medical-grade laser systems, delivered by a doctor with extensive experience in advanced laser procedures. Treatment is available for adults and selected patients aged 16+ (see eligibility below).

Our approach is outcome-focused but safety-led. Laser settings are tailored to your goals—whether that’s faster visible progress or a more comfort-weighted strategy—with clear discussion before treatment begins.

Age & Eligibility Criteria

Laser verruca treatment is available for:

  • Patients aged 18 and over (all laser options)

  • Patients aged 16–17 for Nd:YAG laser treatment only, provided they:

    • Can tolerate the brief discomfort associated with treatment

    • Attend with a parent or legal guardian

    • Have consent co-signed on the day

CO₂ laser excision is offered only to patients aged 18+.

Understanding Verrucas

Verrucas are viral skin lesions caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). They most often appear on weight-bearing areas of the foot, where pressure causes them to grow inward, sometimes forming painful clusters.

Laser treatment is typically considered when verrucas are:

  • Painful or limiting activity

  • Long-standing or recurrent

  • Resistant to over-the-counter treatments

  • Affecting walking, sport, confidence, or quality of life

How Laser Verruca Treatment Works

Laser treatment doesn’t rely on “freezing” the surface of the skin.

Instead, depending on the lesion and chosen method, laser energy is used to:

  • Disrupt the blood supply feeding the verruca (Nd:YAG laser), often without breaking the skin

  • Physically remove the verruca tissue using CO₂ laser ablation in selected cases

This process weakens the lesion and promotes a local immune response, allowing the body to clear the virus over time.

Nd:YAG Laser Verruca Treatment

(First-line option for most patients)

For the majority of suitable verrucas, a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser is used.

This method:

  • Targets the verruca at depth

  • Usually avoids creating an open wound

  • Allows immediate weight-bearing after treatment

  • Is delivered in staged sessions for safety and comfort

Two Treatment Approaches Available

You can choose how assertive the treatment is, within safe limits:

  • Progress-Focused Approach
Higher-effect settings where appropriate, aiming to drive visible change sooner.

  • Comfort-Prioritised Approach
Gentler settings for pain-sensitive patients, typically requiring more sessions overall.

For safety, only a limited number of verrucas or treatment area per foot is treated in any single visit. Larger or multiple lesions are managed over time rather than aggressively in one session.

Response varies: some verrucas improve quickly, others need patience. This is discussed clearly before treatment starts.

CO₂ Laser Verruca Removal

(Selected cases only)

In certain situations, complete physical removal using a CO₂ laser may be the better option.

This may be appropriate when:

  • The verruca is thick, bulky, or protruding

  • Rapid visible removal is a priority

  • The patient accepts:

    • Local anaesthetic injections

    • An open wound after treatment

    • Dressings and aftercare

    • A longer healing period

For safety, a maximum of two verrucas per foot can be treated in one CO₂ session.

Important Things to Know

  • No verruca treatment—laser or otherwise—can guarantee clearance

  • Multiple sessions are commonly required and are charged per session

  • Even CO₂-treated verrucas can occasionally need further laser treatment

  • Nd:YAG laser treatment is brief but can be uncomfortable; most patients find it tolerable

  • Treatment intensity is deliberately limited per visit for safety

  • Extensive or mosaic verrucas may take longer to respond

  • If laser treatment is unlikely to help, this will be explained honestly at consultation
